For Nevada Chukar Hunters looking for the additional “edge” when searching for chukar habitat….

The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) has updated the Wildlife Water Development Atlas for the first time in seven years.  The Atlas provides 160 topographical maps of the entire state’s guzzlers, and includes the UTM coordinate system of the guzzlers as part of the atlas.

With 292 large guzzlers and 1,256 smaller guzzlers located throughout Nevada, chukar and other bird and game species rely on the guzzler system to provide much needed water in an otherwise arid Nevada habitat.   Having the Wildlife Water Development Atlas may allow hunters to make a better informed decision about choosing their chukar hunting territory.

With the new Upland Game Bird Stamp in effect ($10 requirement in addition to Nevada hunting license), NDOW reports a large percentage of this fee goes towards the maintenance and development of the state’s guzzler systems.  This fee may ultimately sustain the species and decrease overall mortality, leading to more chukar in the field.

Cost for the Wildlife Water Development Atlas is $50, available at NDOW offices, or by mail Click Here
