Last Friday bought either good news or bad news for Nevada big game hunters when hunting tag draw results were posted for the 2013 2014 hunting season……..

As mentioned in earlier posts, Nevada big game tag quotas are impacted  by environmental, climactic and human population density, with further restrictions on non-resident vs. resident hunt opportunities.   The Nevada Board of Wildlife Commission quota ultimately drives the end result – whether or not you’re successful in your big game tag application……

Quota setting for 2013  has been established  by the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners Click Here.

An example of the Nevada environmental factors affecting the quota may be reflected in the “Resident Elk-Antlered-Any Legal Weapon Hunt ” .  For unit 075,  the total elk quota (early and late seasons) is a total of 76.  “Difficult hunter access; low elk numbers in area”. is indicated for this unit.  Presumably, the elk are there (in relatively low numbers), and they’re difficult to get to.  These circumstance are due to rough terrain, topography, and the possibility of limited habitat.

Keep in mind, data driven information can assist Nevada hunters in making informed choices when putting in applications for various units and big game species!
