Nevada big game hunters-be aware game tags for 2013-14 hunts have a new look and new changes……

First, be sure to locate the signature line on your tags.  You must sign, date, and time the tag prior to heading out on your hunt in order to validate the tag (as always, remember the tag must always be in the tag holder’s possession during the hunt).  To complete the validation, immediately after reaching the killed animal, the tag holder must punch the tag information on the reverse side.

A second change is the addition of a transportation permit, which is attached to the game tag. The transportation permit allows an individual other than the legal tag holder to transport the harvested animal back home or to a meat processor.  Be aware that there are two copies of the transportation permit-one copy stays with the tag holder, and the other copy stays in possession of the transporter.  The tag holder and transporter MUST sign both copies of the transportation permit, as well as a witness as noted below.

IMPORTANT LEGAL REQUIREMENT REGARDING TRANSPORTATION PERMITS:  In addition to the tag holder and transporter, a witness must also sign both transportation permits, documenting the date and time he or she witnessed the transfer of the animal.

The new transportation permit can be convenient in some situations for Nevada big game hunters.  For example, if you’re hunting in the field and you harvest your animal early, you now have an option to have your meat brought home by a friend or family member if you plan to extend your hunt.   Just remember to include that witness in the process…………
