Jarrod and Angela Mesloh, owners of Nevada Tannery in Fallon, recently partnered with NOU as one of our Nevada hunting service providers.

Nevada Tannery is a truly unique local service provider, operating as the only commercial tannery here in the state.  Additionally, Nevada Tannery offers taxidermy services, rugging and artificial habitat-described by Jarrod as a “one stop” experience for Nevada hunters.  We wanted to learn more about how Nevada Tannery evolved, so Jarrod gave us an overview of his background/experience:

1.  How long have you and your wife been in business?

Taxidermy/tanning since 2011.

2.  What led you to have your business in Nevada?

Good business climate, I moved a trucking/construction company I had in California here in 1998. The economy fell apart, so I started my tannery/taxidermy business. I have been “off and on” self-employed since I was 23 years old.

3.  What attracted you to the tannery/taxidermy profession?

I have been a hunter/fisherman my whole life and avid outdoorsman. I am very mechanical, it all just fits us and our personality very well. I tanned my first hide when I was 12 years old and have always been fascinated with the art.

4.  From an outdoorsman perspective, what aspects of Nevada do you believe to be the most beneficial for hunters?  What is the most challenging aspect in your opinion?

The ability to get yourself completely lost in the absolute solitude of Nevada is what makes it a fantastic place for outdoorsman. The near vertical terrain of Nevada is what makes Nevada so challenging to navigate.

5.  What is the one thing you would like our website users to be aware of when they prepare to bring in a game mount for Taxidermy purposes?

I see a lot of poor field care-taxidermists are not miracle workers. We as taxidermists can only work with what the hunter brings us. Proper field care of the game is an essential part of the hunt. The internet is full of information on proper field care.  Also, if a hunter wants more information on proper field care any GOOD taxidermist would be happy to give advice.

Thanks to Jarrod and Angela for partnering with NOU, and providing their unique services for the Nevada hunting community!
