Although many Nevada anglers looks forward to traveling out of town to fish Nevada waters, some may not have the time, equipment or means to enjoy this type of fishing experience.
Fortunately, several Nevada urban ponds offer fishing opportunity for just about everyone.
To explore the advantages of urban pond fishing in Nevada, NOU spoke with Kim Toulouse, Wildlife Biologist for the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW).
According to Kim,Nevadaurban ponds are stocked by NDOW regularly, thus offer different fishing opportunities in proximity to residential neighborhoods. With more fishing opportunities available to Nevadans at large, this in turn also helps Nevada’s economy, as there are more anglers purchasing rods, gear, bait etc.
In consideration of youth or adults who may not own a boat, or those not having the means to travel out of town, urban pond fishing may offer that recreational activity that would not otherwise be available.
Some things to keep in mind-urban pond fishing requires a valid Nevada fishing license, and fishing is open only during the individual park hours in which the pond is located.
As an example of a popular urban pond in Northern Nevada, Kim made reference to Sparks Marina, a pond that’s been stocked with Spotted Bass. She noted that the east side of the Marina doing well for this species.
Thanks to NDOW and Kim for their information, and for more specific details on Nevada urban pond fishing, see NDOW’s website at ndow.org
