A recent scouting trip reveals Nevada big game populations may be in serious competition for water resources……

During a recent scouting trip to Unit 012 in the Northwestern part of the state, we observed obvious signs of the current drought, a situation creating impact for Nevada Antelope, as well as other Nevada big game species.

A survey of the natural springs in Unit 012 revealed a majority of them to be completely dry.  The lack of water has equally impacted vegetation, making forage conditions extremely fragile for a number of species.

To further complicate matters, it appeared that antelope and other species of big game have further challenges for their water sources.

Of the springs in Unit 012 that did have water, there were clear signs that antelope were directly competing against cattle as well.

The spring pictured here was fenced off, providing a refuge for the antelope to water.
