While heading into Nevada hunting area 6, talked to Tom, owner of Taylor Canyon Resort. When asked if it’s worthwhile to go up to Toe Jam Mountain via McCann Creek Road to hunt the area, Tom advised that McCann Creek Road is closed off at the ranch, denying access to the area. The same ranch also closed off Water Pike Canyon, via the highway access. You still may get access to Toe Jam/Walker Mountains via Willow Creek or the long route through Midas….As most may be aware, there was a fire there last year, however the area is now grass covered, with intermittent aspen groves that were not burned.
There are two ways to get access to Water Pipe Canyon-the first through Thomas Jose Canyon, the second up and over Gance Creek. Be advised both roads are rough going!
