To Nevada hunters who drew tags for area 181 and 184-Be aware that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is preparing to gather up approximately 450 to 525 wild horses 70 miles east of Fallon, Nevada. According to the BLM, the gather will take place in the Desatoya Mountains within Churchill and Lander counties. The round up will be done by helicopter, and is scheduled for mid-August. As you may be aware, this project could have implications for antelope and mule deer hunters in August.
As additional area of interest for hunters, the goal of the wild horse gather up project includes improvement of sage grouse habitat, which could likely improve habitat for other Nevada game species.
